I have been cleaning the COP's for 2 years now every so often and today with the wife home sick,(her driver) :0 I fianlly decided I have had enough.
So i pulled the manifold off and the pictures are in my gallery.
I don't know how to post inot this thread or I would have...lol
Anyway ,the usuall story I replaced thermostat 2-3 years ago no problems then this year she started dropping cylinders 5,6,7 intermittently.
After pulling plugs and seeing the coolant leak i was pissed.
Why would the intake come apart far enough to allow the gasket to squeeze out is beyond me. Bolts were tight ,yet as seen in the pics it was toast.
I worked 25 years a Master Tech both for Ford and mainly Toyota and Lexus at the end, but just when you think you have seen it all!!!
This truck has run flawless for 8 years ,with the exception of when the tranny oil cooler line came off on the wife and she a ahhh... well she called and said it wouldn't move when she was reving it on the freeway.
9 qts later I got it to move agan and it has never stopped since.
Not even the wife can Kill IT!!!
Looking back seems all the problems stem from work....hmmmm that's not good.. I guess I am lucky to be able to still work on it, even though we live in Minnesota now and its snowing and colder than a well diggers ***. Why don't these things happen in the summer when it's nice and warm...lol
Just a view from a disabled tech, who wants to share what happened.
Had the same problem about two months ago, engine missing so I buy a few coil packs and new plugs. While pulling the plug I notice the coolant in the spark plug hole with the wire being wet. I took my wet vacuum and suck out all the coolant then change the plugs. She have been running good ever since. Returned the coil packs back to Autozone.
Where is this seepage coming from? I did not see coolant anywhere else on the motor which left me puzzled.
If I could figure out how to post the pics i would show you,but in a nut shell it is the intake manifold under the thermostat housing, which is in the manifold. Those 2 bolts go through the intake to the head.
Need help on posting pics
This may show it if not in my gallery

This shows the valley, which is really odd, broken pieces from the plastic cover around the plenum. The pipe in the valley looks good, right now, wondering if I should replaceit while its apart. Don't see any rust , or wear, .
Anyone have an opinion here?
Would like to send injectors out to be cleaned ,but don't have time to wait a week -10 days for them to come back.
I just dealt with that same exact problem. Thought I was going to have to pay $400 for new intake manifold gaskets. After about a month or two of sucking out coolant from #5 and #6 every couple of days, I changed the o-ring on the thermostat housing hoping that would solve it. Nope. After several more weeks of tinkering I found out that problem was that the bolts on the housing were not tight enough. Once tighten very good, I have not had a problem since.
