I have an 85 F250 4x4 with no clutch pedal resistance. Last week the linkage rod to the pedal broke in half, pedal went to floor. Replaced the rod, but while replacing it, leaked quite a bit of fluid out. Tried to gravity bleed it, no luck. Now it's leaking out the place where the rod is connected when the pedal is pushed in. Bottom line here, I need this fixed asap as I need to drive this truck home. Its at the ex-boyfriends house now and I have a very limited amount of time to fix it. (Yes, you're talking to a mechanically impaired female). Did we break something in the process of replacing the adjustable rod? All the guts of (what I am assuming is) the slave popped out when we remove the old rod. The white plastic piece that was held in by a c-clip was really tough to replace and that's where it appears to be leaking fluid from. I only need enough clutch to get it into gear and get it on the road. I can improvise from there! I know this seems to be a common problem, but not usually an easy fix, from what I've been reading.
thats the master cylinder. yeh, it sounds like u damaged the seal. its gonna need replaced.
those can be a real bitch to bleed also. sometimes u have to bleed them BEFORE you mount them to the firewall. otherwise, due to the angle theyre mounted, it traps air in the top.
Once you get it out of there, check the firewall for cracks, rust etc and flex. These trucks had issues, and flex leads to misalignment, which leads to broken parts, bound up linkages etc.
You can start it in gear and drive without a clutch, just gotta learn to match rpms to wheel speed and shut the ignition off for stop sighns. I wouldnt reccomend going far, but if you gotta get it out of there
