Many Ford Dealerships Closing
In the recent ecenomic events, all the local ford dealers, as well as alot of other car dealerships are closed, closing, or have become majorly downsized and selling used cars. I live in a large city, and have to travel half way across town if I needed a part from the dealership.
Without warning, recently dealerships have closed like flys and their inventory of new vehicles transferred to other dealerships.
Has it been the same around your neighborhoods like mine?
If ford goes bankrupt, what if we need some oem parts to keep us running not offered by the aftermarket indusrty?

But if they did and you needed parts not offered by the aftermarket you would have to make them yourself or find used ones.

Well, let me rephrase that. One dealer did close down, Babylon Ford. But they had been doing badly for a decade, so it was no surprise.

None around here but I live in a rural area. There is only one Ford dealership in the entire county. Of course there is only one Chevy and Dodge dealer as well.

Lets see, in Chicago area in the past few years,Bert Weinmann Ford, Lynch Ford, Elmhurst Lincoln Mercury Ford, Royal Lincoln Mercury, Elmwood Ford, The ford dealer in Elk Grove village, . Then off the top of my head, some other brand dealers would include Saturn of Chicago, Lynch Buick, Lynch Chevrolet, Jacobs Twin Buick Pontiac, Olympic Dodge, North Oak Chrysler, Gateway Chevrolet,City Chevrolet, Cellozzi Ettleson Chevy, and numerous ones I cant remember the names of. I drive by them all the time and thelots are just basically empty, or the dealer lost their dealership and scaled down selling used cars only now. Atleast 75 big dealers and hundreds of used car lots here are gone.

Add, Oakfield ford, Jacobs Ford, M&M Lincoln-Mercury, to The Chicago Fomoco list off my head. Some of these closures were forced by ford! They told the dealers that they wanted to close some low volume dealers to make all the rest more profitable.

I'm in Hamilton Ontario just outside Toronto and we have 3-4 major ford dealers around here - none have closed...yet and hope not. I feel sorry for the small dealerships i've seen the same cars on the lot for months for the little guys, for that fact even the big dealerships also

Luckily I live near the supposed largest autosquare but try not to go there since their prices are usually a little higher than other sports. They are very unlikely to go anywhere but you never know.

Increased competition drives down sales prices per unit, further reducing profits.
There's a sweet spot for sure, but that's the beauty of a free market economy. Without artificial intervention you end up with the proper amount of resources allocated.

Harr Ford in Worcester, MA closed recently. They were one of the "name" muscle-car dealers back in the day, along the lines of Tasca Ford but not nearly as well known. For the past several decades, though, they were a high-pressure volume dealer with sketchy customer service.
