i have a problem i have a 93 f250 351 5 spd. 135000miles. when i am accelerating. and shifting in any gear. like when i am in thrid at 2000 rpms and i let off then get back on it it feels like the truck just hit a speed bump it lunges. in any gear only aboue 1500 rpms. it has an idle problem i unplugged the ics and it idles good. but it takes me for ever to get to 70mph with the rough shifting please help
the springs in your clutch plate are shot. they are there to take up some of the shock when you shift but when they brake they dont. mine does the same thing sometimes.
It's tough to understand what your describing is it a tranny problem or an engine problem. It sounds to me like an engine problem, maybe the TPS is bad, does it accelerate smoothly when your not shifting?
If you push the clutch with it in nutraul and idling does anything change?
If you stay in the same gear and don't push the clutch but lift and then accalerate does it do it?
Reread your post, it still sounds to me like a Bad TPS, that could cause your idle problem too.
I am assuming he ment IAC and is using ICS (idle control silonoid) I think with what's going on IAC problems are a symtom not a cause.
If the original poster is referring to the IAC and his idle improves when the IAC is disconnected--there is an issue with the IAC. If the IAC isnt allowing the idle to go to the normal 600RPM-it will cause a flair up of engine RPM when shifting at low road speed and cause the trouble that the original poster first referred to--shifting issues.
well it sounds like someone has hit the engine or tranny with a sledge hammer and feels like it too. after shifting and when just letting off the gas then back on it it only shifts good below 1500 rpms. above thats when it gets bad. my idle controle sensor is what i unplugged on the throttle body ot near it.
it also smokes evry once in a couple months for about 3 seconds when start up. it feels like it hesisates when heavy accelerating. the exhaust recycling system into the cat is rotted off the truck my cat flows out the top of it. i just did a tune up of plugs oil filter air filter

We need a better description of what's going on. Sledge hammer isn't really a usefull description.
Whay does the engine sound like? Can you get it to happen without shifting?
I want you to try unpluging the small wires from the starter silenoid after you start it and going for a drive. I think there might be a chance that the starter is trying to engage when the clutch hits the clutch saftey switch, This would cause a loud bang and huge engine drag at all engine speeds faster than the starter can turn.
