Oil Pump Drive Shaft Question

The new shaft I purchased has a round tab on one end. Am I correct in assuming this goes toward the driveshaft and is used to prevent you from pulling the drive shaft out when you yank the distributor?

It seems to stop the shaft from coming up thru the distributor hole. This was missing from the 2 engines I've had apart but I remember reading about it somewhere.

Yes and when you put it in you need to adjust that star washer so that with the oil pump in place, the star washer is VERY close to the top. If you leave too much space, the shaft will come far enough out of the oil pump to come loose and fall into the pan.
