normally the SD page isnt my home but heres the deal. I have a 97 PSD. i upgrded to a DP last year and never got rid of my old superchips tuner. i gave it a buddy today to install on his 2000 SD automatic. he programed it to normal and it started right up. put it into reverse and it ran fine. then he went to drive and it died. so he started it up and it did the same thing 3 times. park runs fine, just the forward gears are killing the truck. he reprogramed it to stock and the truck still dies. what is going on???? never did this to my 97! thanks
Is the Superchips compatable between the 97 and the 00? Maybe that messed up the system. It even sounds like the TC messing up, but I am far from a tranny expert.
ya its compatible. i had it when i used to own a 2000 SD myself. it was a 6 speed and hadnt done that either. i thaught TC too but its hard to point fingers at something that was working great moments before. we want to reflash the PCM but everything is shut down for the weekend. ive never had to pull any codes with it. the truck isnt setting anythind off either
it jerks for a split second exactlly the way you would stall a stick shift but it just dosnt sound the same when it dies. why did it work in treverse then? is there a way i can put the tranny in a fail safe mode?
I'm with Parkland. Sounds like the TC. Mine acted the same way when it went out. I would have to rev it up and throw it in D to get it to roll from the stop light I was stuck at - then I would have to shift into nuetral to keep it from stalling when slowing down to a stop.
I guess the first thing to do is remove any chips or tuners, and maybe try disconnecting the power cables from the batteries for 15 minutes, then reconnect without the tuners/chips installed.
I imagine the wire that we splice for out "TC lockup mod" could be cut to see if the PCM is acting up, or the tranny is simply not acting proper - before we go cutting anything, I'm sure someone has a better more civilized idea...
Have you tried retrieving any codes? I know jack ***** about code readers, but maybe that could help you...
It should say on the screen when you plug it in if you want to read the codes or program. Like said above try to disconnect the batteries and then go from there if you cant get any codes read.
in addition, some programers will read live data, I know the predator does but not sure about the superchips. If it does you can read the trans live data tables and see if the PCM is seeing the TC locked.
this superchips wont read codes, the next model in line did but it was the first of its kind. the OD light thing has me stumped. it dosnt flash, or even come on when the OD is turned off. i checked the bulb, it was fine. i even replaced it to eliminate any doubt and still no luck. we un hooked the battery overnight and it didnt help any. is anyone familiar with the sequence of fuses you can pull to reset the PCM? i did it once on my 97 but cant remember how or whether it would work on a SD. i always thaught that pulling the batteries would do the same thing. any idea what im talking about?
thanks
the best way for me to explain how it dies in drive is like letting a clutch out in 5th gear from a stop. kinda sounds like its flooding or dieing slower than you think it would if the TC was completely locked. maybe that makes sense to someone!
