Changing my oil tomorrow, what is the best oil filter to use? I bought a couple gallons of the Rotella T 15W 40, how is that oil?
Rotella is a good oil. It takes 15 quarts to do an oil change on a 7.3 so your going to need a little bit more. I use Wix filters, or Napa Gold. Motorcraft is as good also. IMO. I wouldn't use Fram though.
Make sure you punch a hole in the filter to let it drain out before you remove it. Much better than dropping a filter with hot old oil all over you and the ground.
Like Jim said, you will need a couple more gallons. YOu will need to buy 4 gallons to do the trick, however you shouldnt use all of the 4 gallons, you should haev a quart left over.
Rotella is my personal favorite, thats what always been run in my truck.
Motorcraft, Napa Gold/Wix #1734 filter around the 20 micron level and show good results on used oil analysis reports for folks using them. Next time You can get the Napa/Wix #1734 for @ $11 each from FleetFilter.com. Save you some $ on the next interval.
Folks that run Rotella ussually run it 3-5K. I choose to run Schaeffer's 15W-40, it's what some of the Engineering BSB's use in there ECU field diesel generators - but don't want to turn this into an oil war.
What is the AEM intake? - I haven't heard of it yet.
the AEM is the brand, overpriced I bought it before I knew about going with the 6637. eventually i'll ditch it for that. Thanks for the advice on the filter and oil guys.
Hey, if your in my area sometime you can help me paint my IC pipes sometime! They look great!!!! Nice and clean Job.........
I us rotella 15w-40 also and motorcraft filters, the last time I got the filter from NAPA no problems that I know of I don't send my oil away to get tested! going to test it at my next oil change to see how things are doing in there!!!!!!

For the 3rd or 4th time I'm going to point out to make sure you're going to be able to get your filter loose before poking a hole in it. If you poke the hole and then can't get the filter off you're screwed, blued and tattooed.
