Parging (Cement)

Anyone done this before? Parging is the coat of cement that is applied to the outside of a foundation wall to make it look nice.

I had some work done on my foundation last year. Unfortunately the forms didn't hold very well, and where the repairs were done, the walls bubble out a bit.

What I did is cut horizontal lines into the cement, and I'm chiseling off the excess cement. I also bught a few bags of parging cement mix that I want to apply over the surface once it is broken down enough.

My question is how should I prepare the rough surface before applying the new concrete. Should I clean it with muriatic acid

well I parged the inside of my attic walls (exposed 3 course brick) before I studded and finished them off. we just used portland cement and sand mix and trowelled it up. exposed brick is nicer than gray parge. and it seals any moisture to the outside (this house was built 1920 and the bricks were far less dense and the mortar mix not nearly as good as today - moisture does travel!)

i would say remove any loose cement and brush on a concrete bonding agent and then follow the directions for parging

local home depot or Lowes store personel may have a better solution.

Should be fine as long as you use a bonding agent on the walls prior and mix a little into your grout.

gotta love them "homemade forms".......... blown many apart lol.

A good scuffing and gouge a key (grooves) or two into where your parging and perhaps a bonding agent like already mentioned if you need it that should do the trick

TIP: since your up there in Quebec.... if you haven't already bought the powder, look for a Cement powder with a % of AEA (air entrainment ) for freeze \ thaw resistance....
