Question taking the top off... a must do

yea i know that taking the top off the broncos are a must do, however i have never done it before and i dont want to screw things up if i decide to do it.. what is the "proper" way.. lol.. to remove the top? also for legalities, what do you recomend doing with the shoulderstrap seatbelts and the high mounted brake light? also... i was wondering if there was a certain way to put it back on again aswell..

If you still have the original owners manual for the 91 and older broncos it will give you the procedure. Else, check out the haynes manual for it.

Just unplug the 3rd brake-light. As far as the shoulder belts go they are a bit more tricky I have mine set up as lap belts that are set to the right place for my kids, ( I use the clips that came with the child safety seats) not much different than the lap belts on my 81.

I hate to be a kill-joy, but I never saw the reason to take the top off. It looks cool as a mini-pickup and its great for the back passengers, but as the driver and it's all the same to me. I was wondering if you guys that have removed it could tell any differnce in proformance. Does it weigh much? Less body roll? I use to have a Scout that I made in to a targa top. It was awlsome. I would like to do it to the Bronco. But with the door window frames, you cant really do it.

It's actually a bad thing for wheelin'. The back top provides structural support for the bed and the pillars. If you take a hit on any panel or the A-pillar, the top will not go back on. It's kind of cool around town though.

It is no-where near nice enough that I would be willing to sell. There is a write up of it here I think I spent 25 -30 for materials and I allready had the hoop from my SOFTTOP If you have access to a sewing maching it realy is not to hard to make the seams.
