hey. i posted earlier but didnt get any responses... i want to know if anyone knows of specific things i should ask the owner of the '96 bronco xlt before i start making deals with him..if anyone could feed me things to ask him i would appreciate it. this would be my first car/truck so im not sure what else to ask him about the vehicle other than the milage, maintenace, tuning, inspection outcomes, anything aftermarket, whether or not the top had been removed and what the bronco was used for... also i was hoping for some clarification on the recall that had to do with the cruise control..
You can expect the PO to lie about the mileage. Expect 14 or so with this truck. You really want to check the tranny out and make sure the fluid was changed regularly and that it's nice and pink now. It shouldn't smell burned.
If the top has been removed, it won't necessarily leak. As long as it was installed and stored properly, it'll be fine.
The cruise recall should have been done. Any dealer can tell you if it was or not. You should unplug the cruise switch from the master cylinder. That will prevent a fire.
Sounds like a nice truck. Post some pictures when you get it.
you might consider taking it to a ford dealership and have them check it out. he hours worth of labor would be worth finding out if there is any major problems. for instance if that tranny had a problem, you can figure $1800-2500 for a rebuild.
There is a web page that will tell you all you want to know about the year Bronco but I dont remember what it is.
But I think it cost a couple of bucks.
There is also a web that will check the vechicle history by the vin number. You must have the vin number.
Check the Kelly Blue Book page or Edmunds for a link.
I bought my 95 Bronco some years back used with 43K on it. I recomend checking the under carrage for dents and leaking oil. Dents and scrapes means this Bronco has seen alot of off road use. Look for mud stuck under the frame. Mud under the frame means this Bronco might have played in the mud and could have water in the axels and bearings.
the owner wants 5500 but i think that thats a lil too much.. im going to offer around 4500... do you guys have any suggestions on what to offer?? i checked the blue book and it set pretty close to 5000 for excelent for the miles that are on there...
kk.. im taking a mechanic friend with me and my friend.... since this will be my first i think ill check every single little inch on it for anything... i didnt even think about looking under for dents in the carriage... ill just bring a creeper with me i guess.. i hope the guy lets me take it for a test drive... got any ideas of what to look for if i do take it out?? i dont remember hearing about problems with engine knock on this year of bronco...
I forgot, my 95 has a problem of not shifting into 4wd when I want it too! I havn't fiqued it out yet but this seems to be a comen problem with the electronic shift transfer case. Also if it still has auto hubs make sure they work and a first chance go to some Warn manual hubs!
kk thnx do you have to stop to switch it into 4wd or get below 7mph or something? i always wondered that... im not sure what hubs are in it rite now.......
The electronic transfer case can be shifted into 4HI at any speed thus Ford added the automatic hubs.
4LO can ownly be shifted at a full stop in neutral.
Auto hubs can malfuction with dirt and mositure. Ford autohubs have a 4x4 on the cover, manuel hubs have a dial and sometimes say on the outer ring "FREE" "LOCKED" with an arrow telling witch way to turn.
test the 4wd system on gravel or dirt, dont engage it on pavement. I would also drive the bronco for a bit and let it get good and warmed up. drive it on the hwy to make sure theres no steering issues or major vibrations.
i dont really have any dirt or gravel to test the bronco on (unless a public park counts XD) but ill def take it on the freeway... its parked right next to the freeway actually.. lol. my friend has a '95 ford lightning and he said if i get this bronco he would trade me bumpers so he could run a low intake and he also said he would trade me his k/n intake for the original intake as well as trade me his new audio deck for the original.. lol yay.. i dont care so much to keep it original so that would be a good deal 4 me
Go down to your local cat dealer and pick up sample test kit for both trans and engine they will tell you the condition of both to a t and if there are any hidden problems that you cant see or hear if the owner has truly maintained it they will not mind. it sure is worth the thirty dollars or so that it will cost. As for the top its a must to take off that makes the bronco what it is and new gasket's are not that much to replace when they wear out. Most important do the oil sample test and save yourself the headache down the road!!!!!!
