I just bought a 37 1.5 ton stake truck and the rims are shot. Was wondering if anybody knew where I could get any or newer one piece rims that work. Really don't want to have to deal with the split rings. Thanks in advance. Aaron
First of all, welcome to the group. Glad to have you hanging around.
According to my books, by 1937 Ford had switched from the old 5 lug x 6 7/8" circle to the later 5 lug x 8" circle rims. This bolt pattern was then used up into the 1970s. There were 20" x 5" and 20" x 6" available in '37. Replacement reconditioned "lock ring" wheels like your originals can be bought from American Wheel Specialist, LLC, in Pasco, WA. They don't have a web site. Phone number is 509-543-9305. They pull centers from original rims and remount them into new "lock ring" outer rims. You'll have to see what widths they have available. If you live out west and are in the Les Schwab Tire Company service area you'd have to go through Schwab because they have a master contract with American. FWIW, I have no financial interest in either company.
If you want to be rid of the lock ring rims, American sells 19.5" tubeless rims with this bolt pattern. They don't look exactly like your originals, but that's one of the trade-offs I guess. Last spring I posted a picture of one of these wheels over on the 1948-1960 page in a thread entitled "Great Source for New Big Truck Wheels". If you click on my Truckdog62563 nickname it will let you look at all threads associated with me.
New tubeless 19.5" wheels will use 8R19.5" tires. Hope that helps. Stu
stu, have you actually seen the finished product from american wheel? are they anywhere near show quality or 10 yarders? thinking about new wheels for my marmon.
Interesting you ask. The wife and I are headed to Portland this weekend to visit our son and his family. I-84 goes right past Pasco, WA, so I emailed the owner's son yesterday to see if it's ok if I pay a visit. I'll want to see the 19.5s, and ask them other questions. I'll have time on the road to work up a good list. If you have any other questions I'll ask them too. We're leaving here Sunday morning early and driving straight through. I figure we'll be going past there sometime mid day Monday. It's about a 36 hour trip. I'll let you know what I see, and hopefully post some pics.
All that said, I assume you saw the pic of the 19.5 that I posted in the about referenced thread. Right? And in the Group Purchase thread (as I recall) is a pic of a set a member bought and painted white. They look like normal 19.5s except for the round vent holes. Stu
yessir, saw the wheels (19.5s), but prefer to keep 20'' wheels for appearance's sake. would surely appreciate any info you can obtain. I was up near portland last jan., learned of company a few months later. I travel 48 states 5-6 months each year with the bride, and usually head for west coast. I know all about that long trip! be safe, watch out for the road gremlins.----ps- have been searching for a 1965 fairlane sport coupe as i travel country, have yet to find acceptable car. (did i mention i'm ****?). IF you see something nice, jot down address, i will pursue. thanks- pete
thanks a lot for the info. ive searched all over for some rims. if u stop there see how much they are now. i would greatly appreciate it. Also do u know where to get good radiators? Thanx Aaron
Radiators I'm not good on. As for wheel pricing, as I recall the guys that have bought from this company have posted what they paid. You might go to the "Group Purchase" thread, I know it's long, and see what you can find. Also I think pricing was covered in the "Great Source for New Big Truck Wheels" thread. I'll ask it again, though, when I see them.
