I've owned my current '93 since Dec of '97. For as long as I've remembered, it's always made a "clunk" sound when I pull away from a dead stop. A few years ago, I purchased another '93 while living in TN. It did the same thing. I've talked to other f/s Bronco people who hear the same noise. I've been to multiple shops thoughout the years, and no-one has ever said there's a problem.
However ... it seems like I always have a passenger who insists that something is wrong with my Bronco. I've been told (none of these guys were mechanics) that my rear diff is slipping, that my rear suspension MUST be loose, that my U joints MUST be bad, blah blah blah.
So ... is it just me, or is the clunk just kinda standard for a f/s Bronco? It's been the same in the 10+ years I've owned the truck. Never better, never worse. I'm just tired of everyone on the planet trying to tell me what's wrong with my ride.
i've had 2 95 broncos now and the first one i had did make a clunk sound when i shifted out of o/d going up hill..it ended up the gear oil needed to be changed cuz it was gears grinding and it ended up throwin a piece of metal thru the rear pan...it could your ujoints on the driveshaft..i would definetly look into new U joints maybe chck the yoke on the rear differential it mite be slipping..bearings could be going out...it could be a number of things
Mr. Roboto, all of these suggestion are good, could even be slop in the rear axle, but not probable. drivetrain noises can come from many different locations, ie... leafsprings, slop in the spider gears(I hope not), slip yokes, u-joints,transfer case chains, any number of things can move, shift & go bump under power.I've even seen the trans to transfer case adapter hit the floor under power(w/460 n 78 bronco) even though the mount is good. If it's bad enough, it will tell you whats up soon. If it doesn't bother you, HK (Hoo Kares). Just enjoy your ride! and quit -RW
My 1995 bronco thumped when taking off and sometimes stopping, after trips to transmission shops, auto shops all wanting to do some type of transmission work finally took it to well respected shop in the houston area (Cypress Texas) Skeeter's Automotive, after a test drive, left it with them and later that day they called and the problem was solved, greased the slip yoke and it has worked ever since.... Also when going over bumps, curbs etc... there was a noise that sounded like the drive shaft bumping, turned out to be transmission mounts needed to be replaced....
