I have a 06 f150 supercab 4x4 it has a 5.4 litre v-8 and the 3.55 axle setup. I just bought this truck 3 months ago, I love it so far, but my ? is WHY IS IT USING SO MUCH GAS! I recently took it on my 1st trip north, which is a 245 mile trip, I filled my tank up when i left my house and I was pulling a 5x8 steel trailer which ways in at 450 pounds, I used a full tank of gas on my trip when I got to my destination which was 245 miles away, It took me 20 gallons of gas to pull a empty 450 pound trailer, IS THIS NORMAL? I sure hope someone can shed some input on this, The truck has the 275 75 18 bfg's on it, I do have a fiberglass cap on the truck and a K&N airfilter, Could there be something wrong with the trans or something? Noticed a lil difficulty going up hills also when the cruise was set, really working hard. PLEASE HELP
You say it used 20 gallons to go 245 miles, that is about 12.25mpg pulling a trailer.. That is about average from what i have heard and experience with my 04. I have 285s on my truck and before i put an edge evolution programmer in it, i was getting about 10-11 around town. with the chip i get about 12-14 depending if i can keep my foot out of it. And it has alot more power with the chip. As far as using the cruise control, i alway take it off cruise when i start going up hills or give it a little more to make it up the hill so the cruise doesnt take over and make the truck downshift like crazy to keep the speed. I am sure other people will chime in with some other opinions
