I have a 1987 f-350 dump with a 460 carb. motor. I have replaced the electronic fuel pump (in gas tanks) a couple time since last October. I have another one ready to put in, but was wondering how many volts should be going to hot wire(red wire) when turning motor over. I put a volt meter on it and I am getting 9 volts. Shouldnt it be 12 volts?? Dont want to put new pump in until find out proper volts, any help would be appreciated thanks mark
Should be 12V if your battery is putting out 12V when cranking.
You might try another fuel pump relay. Sometimes the contacts corrod over the years and this creates resistance.
Are you running the tanks until darn near empty pretty frequent? If you are that is the reason the pumps are burning up since the fuel actually keeps the pumps cool and take
that away by running to much below 1/4 tank often and you will eat pumps left and right
front and back so to say in your case!! If you don't need to use but one tank put a 1/4
or more fuel in there some Sta-bil and gas line dryer and cycle it every couple months.
