I have a 2001 EXCURSION 10 CYL 4X4-HAVE Pirelli Scorpion LT265/65R16 Type E ATR tires. Door jam says pressures should be 38 front 45 rear. Max pressure on tire wall says 80psi. I wanted to raise pressure to help with gas milage a little-I asked dealer and they said most I should do is 41psi max all 4 tires.
I'm not towing and Im usually driving alone with no extra load.
Any advice?
Also been having intermittant prob with Door Ajar light on dash-I believe its from driver door-anyone have any probs with that?
Thanks for any help out there.
As for the tire pressure, I would probably guide myself from what the tire says and not the door jam. Because Tires change, different ratings, different manufactures and with, that pressure changes too.
Until you have uneven wear (cupping) issues, I'd say you can raise them up as high as you want all the way to the Max tire rating. You may find ride quality suffers, but that is subjective.
I just wonder why the service guy at dealership said keep psi no higher then 41 all around. I guess I can try the chalk method and see what that tells me if I raise them a bit. Thanks
You will get a softer ride in your beast at 41 psi. Not everyone likes to ride like a wagon. I know guys who ride at max and yes their beats ride like a F350.
I have an 04 diesel and my door panel says 55 Lbs rear and 50 Lbs front. I have Michelin 265s/LRE with 45,000 miles on them and 1/2 the tread remaining. I run 60 Lbs year around unless I'm towing then I go to 80 Lbs front and rear.
