horn stuck? 02 Ex

Ok, this was weird. Just took delivery of new-to-me 02 EX 2wd EB 7.3, 63,000miles. Just got back from the carwash (did not wash under the hood at all) and turned the truck off. Kids where milling about in the back seat moving seats back and forth when all of a sudden the horn started to go off and on then finally stuck. I think it eventually burned out the fuse, which I will need to find tomorrow? Or it may have burned out the horn. Did finally get the battery cables disconnected, but by then it had seemed to have stopped. Has anyone ever experienced this sort of elec. gremlin? Was just kind of strange. KIPS

It almost sounds like you activated the alarm, or panic feature on the remote. I've done that with the keys in my pocket.

Next time, use the FOB and hit the lock and unlock to see if that stops the horn. If not, hit the panic button and see if that works.

Dr Stewart,

Tonight I ran some aqua tests and yes, my New-to-Me Ex has a one flaw, that will cost a little money to fix. I do indeed have a water leak on the windshield, upper LH side, right above the steering wheel. My supposition goes like this: H2O drips down on the top of the wheel, into the crack by the air bag, and does not have effect until I drive around turning the wheel a little and finally, when I stop, the horn comes to life as it's contacts close due to water being a great electrical conductor.

I remember during my initial look at the vehicle I noticed that the trim piece that covers the windshield was slightly raised, upper LH side(facing the vehicle) and when I made mention the then-owner hopped up on the running board and gentle tapped it with his fist and it popped into place. He said something about the carwash..... This didn't mean much to me then, but now looking back!

I have found a local auto glass shop that says $45 to $250 (if the glass breaks) to remove and repair fully. Used cars are always a joy, but I do love the vehicle. Will drop it off next Saturday for the repair.

On a side note, it appears that the cruise control (also in the wheel) is not working as well as the horn. These are the only 3 things I have found so far in my pokings and proddings with the new vehicle. I do know that the former owner stored this vehicle in the garage and although he didn't disclose this little detail of ownership, I am hoping this is all I will find as issues. I am somewhat tempted to give him a ring, but don't really think it would be effective. I looked at so many different Ex's that I can't remember if the previous owner mentioned ever replacing the windshield. Regardless, a used vehicle is a used vehicle and I didn't have to pay the $48,950 on the window sticker, so I guess I am still ahead.
