is this gunna be a show truck or will it actually be used? if so make sure to use a D60 up front, the easiest way to do it is to get a D60 from a 77.5-79 F350 or F250 snowfighter, the spring perch is very close to the width of the frame which makes setting up leafs easy, since yours is a 99 the best bet for your rear end with be a a sterling 10.25 cause of the vss stuff, this is the easiest way to do it, not theres other ways, you dont have to run leafs but its much easier to set up, ive also seen superduty axles used but dont recomend this, for clearance issues you're going to need to run somewhere around 6.5in of lift also as a minimum, then of course you have to set up steering and all, make sure you do this right and make a good crossover set up for your steering, theres other guys out there who know alot more about this then me but that should get you started, i plan on doing this to my 97 eventually, GOODLUCK
if its for looks then save the D60 for someone who will actually use it, just get a D44 from the same year, as for the speed sensors and such thats why i said to use a sterling 10.25 rearend, that has the vss and will work with what you have now, do some searching for steering, setup crossover steering as this is the safest way
Then why waste the money and time on a SAS for this truck? Seems like a waste to me.
But to each his own.
Remember, the D44's from the late '70's were coil-sprung, so you will need the coil buckets from that truck and adapt it to your frame. Are you going to 4-link it, or try to run the stock '70's radius arms?
i agree that if you have other trucks that you use for wheeling then why waste the money on this one? the reason most would do a SAS on these trucks is for wheelin capablity, atleast thats why i plan on doing it, if you jsut want the lifted look for a DD mall crawler then just use a bolt on lift kit, or just keep this truck stock, thats just my .02
parts for the 44 are cheaper and i lifted my buddys 03 a while back and he has replace cv 2 or 3 times now dont wanna deal with it after im done plus i like the look but i may do a 60 cause i wud like it to be an 8 lug truck ?
they make D44hd which are 8 lugs, again its your truck but i just dont see justifying doing a SAS for a mall crawler just because you dont want to reaplce cv's, my buddy has a lifted 98 with 35s and he hasnt had to replace his cv's once, and he actually wheels his
