<TABLE width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top>I went, to get estimates on Aftermarket Security and remote start on my 05 f150, just the low end get the job done, and I got quotes of 512.80 and 700.. Anyone else find that INSANE? Or have I really been out a while?

Probably been out for a while. My Ford remote was around $400 almost 4 years ago.. Check out a few websites like crutchfield and see how much their alarm systems are running. Figure labor will cost you around $250 installed on top of the system, so I don't think that's too high of a price.
I wasn't expecting that much, because my friend got aftermarket security on his car, he didnt have any on it, and he got Viper security for 175, I figured since I already have the OEM security.. Is the OEM worth a flip? Like what will make it go off? Does having the keypad affect pricing?

I looked into the same thing almost 2 years ago and was told the same, 5 to $700 installed. There are less expensive kits out there, though I haven't researched it all that much. I think a Viper kit is around $500, and there are "cheaper" kits available. I'm gonna install it myself since I don't trust too many people to touch my truck with tools!

Is it a Ford thing? Because it just sounds ridiculous to me, I'm not gonna pay that, I'd install it, but I have no clue where to begin
Try searching ebay or places like that for a less expensive kit. I would say that it can't be to hard to install, but I'm used to doing everything on my truck. Having the right tools helps as well!

I could probably figure it out, if I just got security, I think the remote start, is where the money really pours in.. Would that be a true or false statment?

I would say false. I looked at a cheap remote starter kit at Pep Boys ($70), and there really wasn't too much to it as far as I could see. Then again I've never installed 1 before. Did install power windows in my ride, and that was relatively easy IMO, and there was a bit more to that kit.

I've decided, I don't want remote start, It's irrelevant to me, becauseIt's just asking for your truck to get stolen lol
I bought my alarm from Travis at www.kcautosound.com I went with Travis for a few reasons #1 He will pre wire it for your Ford truck, #2 He includes detailed instructions on how to wire it up to your truck, #3 If you have any problems he will sit on the phone with you until it is fixed, #4 Code Alarm is the one alarm that will let you keep your factory key pad. I would buy from Travis again but he is not very good at replying to email just better off calling him direct. Right now I am having a problem that Travis is supposed to get back to me when Code figures it out I would stay away from the ca 671for now.

Recently got a "free" remote start kit w/ a tonneau purchase (list price $99). OEM alarms require and extra bypass doohicky (~$50). Instructions are very involved. What I got was very low end IMHO. Lots of features but wacky access - push remote twice, turn key on then off, pulse line twice, etc. I decided to pass. Looking at what is out there, if you are patient, you can probably get all the gear to do a nice job w/ a quality kit for ~ $250 plus (my guess) about a day of your time if all goes well...

The only way it can be stolen is if you have a key and turn the ignition, remote start does not matter at all.... Even with remote start you still have to have a key and turn the ignition to drive off...
If you use a key in a box under the dash to bypass the PATS, have the installer grind down the "cut" portion of the key, so it cant start the vehicle if found or get a programmable box that uses no key.
Like blacklariat said, it can't be stolen. The second you step on the brake, rev the engine or attempt to change gears the system cuts off the fuel pump.
If you know how to tool on your car a little bit and have installed a stereo in the past then the install will be difficult at best. If you've never installed an aftermarket stereo or security system then you're better off not attempting the install. It can be a real PITA.
I have heard good things about the kcsounds pre-wired kits. The hardest part of my install was just trying to figure out which wires I used and which were not needed. So having everything pre-labled to your car would be a huge help.
i have installed several crimestopper brands in different vehicles, and i love them (great features, great pricing, and SUPER LONG RANGE !!) just remember though.... regardless of what brand you choose to go with, it is only as good as the install. i personally wouldnt recommend crimping any connections. i solder all of mine.... yes, it takes more time, but much more dependable in the end. most any kit out there will include a wiring color chart to install the kit. they are very easy to do, just can be rather time consuming. on one more note, to bypass the PATS system, i would recommend to get a unit that is programmable like a spare key would be. this way you will not have to sacrifice a key to install in the module, and leave it in the dash. there are lots of neat features on these units these days. have fun with it !!!!
