I have an 87 F-250 with the 351 HO carburated. I was going to rebuild it but I have a couple ??s
1) Is it worth rebuilding or should I use an older Holley?
2)What are the vents on each bowl for and can they be capped off?
3)It looks like a 4160(except for the vented bowls) but comes up as a 4180, is this correct?
The carb was working OK when it was parked but it has been sitting for a couple years. I'm adding headers and an Edelbrock 351 performer intake I've had laying around and dumping all the smog stuff. The truck only has 74,000 miles on it and I'm hoping to use it again, everyone needs a good parts chaser/dirt hauler/wifes block and rock transporter, etc.......
Yes, this is a 4180. It looks similar to a 4160 externally, but the metering block and main body are slightly different. They are an emissions carb so not generally considered for performance use, but I've been running one on my performance built 460 and it works great. I once borrowed a Holley 750 from a friend to see if it would run any better but I noticed no difference. The vents are for the evaporative emissions control and can be plugged off.
