How Often Should I Start / Run a 6.0 PSD?

My X sits often for 2-3 weeks at a time - sometimes longer, without being started or run. Should it be? I have an autostart on it that would allow me to start it remotely and would shut off after like 15 or 18 minutes - is there any value to running it every so often (other than to keep the batteries charged and burn through $4.75 of diesel)? Thanks.

I think there could be greater harm by starting it and letting it idle for 18 minutes every now and then. Diesels don't usually get up to proper operating temp at idle. This will not allow any condensation to burn off. Add to that that your alternator doesn't usually put out enough charge at idle to recharge both those batteries.

Best bet is to get a trickle charger for the batteries and keep the tank as full as you can. When you DO drive it drive it for at least a half an hour to get everything nice and hot.

Do not start a 6.0 and let it idle and not drive it. That will rust unisen ring in the turbo causing the vgt to stick. Letting it sit for long period will do the same. Jump in that thing one a week and drive it hard.

It's OK to sit. When you drive it make it a long trip. That's similar to what I've been doing lately.
