putting crown vic front clip under 47 f1 want to use the factory fuel injection wiring harness have unpluged it from the complete harness which i still have. how do mate this with the trucks harness i have read that it is easy and only about 6 wires need to be attached.i plan on using the crown vics gas tank thanks elliot
You are going to need the complete computer system from the donor car for sure. The computer will control the opening of the fuel injectors and such as well as all of the timing. I have never done a swap like this, but I am sure it isn't that hard. If I were doing this swap I would get a good manual for the donor vehicle and study the computer wiring. I have put remote starters in several newer cars and would assume that you would need to wire it up like that, so another thing I would look into is wiring diagrams for remote starters for the donor vehicle.
As soule46 said, you will need all the wiring and computer boxes from the donor car to run the engine. Depending on what year the vic is, it has the vin # programmed into the computer and will only work on that engine. I know a few people that thought I can throw away the computer, then tried to get one from a junk yard and it didnt work. The had to buy a new computer ($$$) to make it work. 80's and early 90's Ford and GM engines are easy to convert for use with out a computer, but if you go that route, you might as well carb the engine then. I only recommend eliminating computers for demolition derby engines, not street vehicles.
I've done some research on this, and have a 5.0/AOD from a '93 Cougar for my '36...eveeryone tells me to use the Mustang EFI harness and Computer...TigerDan sent me a few links of wiring/etc...seems the Mustang setup is is much more universal...sio, I opted for the Mustang instead and bought a used harness/CPU for like 60 or 70 bucks last year.
Seems the down side to the "luxury" model cars is extra stuff (I don't recall what...sensors/etc) that the computer needs to function correctly, apparently the Mustang is much more simple, and why there is a following for it.
thanks for the reply this going to be a rat rod that we are doing .we are cliping it and it is alow dollar build.all the mustang harnesses i have seen were around 300 . i was hoping someone could tell how to mate this harness so that i do not have trace out the main harness thanks elliot
Unless you're a wiring guru I'd suggest you do not use a stock harness. I used an OEM harness for my truck from a donor car. I have experience with automotive wiring as I have wired several street rods from scratch. Even with my experience it took me a week to weed out all the unnecessary wires and mine isn't even electronic ignition. I should have gone aftermarket.
Look for an aftermarket harness designed to work with the 5.0 engine. It will vastly simplify the job. Also, just in case you haven't done any measuring yet, that Crown Vic front clip is too wide for an F-1. You can use the engine and rear end though.
