Hello everyone. I have a 99 4X4 Automatic Expedition. It is completely stock and has 160,000 miles, but runs great, is still strong and I have no problems with her. My only issue is in the mornings or after it's been sitting for a few hours it takes several seconds to start. It does eventually start, but it cranks over for about 8 - 15 seconds before finally starting. When it does, it sounds fine, no smoke, no hesitation, no sputtering, it just sounds and runs fine. Besides it's regular maintenance, I've re threaded the spark plug threads on passenger side head when it had 125,000 on it and of course replaced the plugs at that time as well (not the coil packs since they tested as still good with an OhM meter). Aside of that, I have followed the maintenance schedule provided to the letter, changing whatever is recommended in the manual. (I'm the original owner and I have taken good care of her)
So, before I start I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas, things to look at, perhaps rule out. Thank you all in advance.
I would start looking at the fuel pump. Get a hold of a fuel pressure guage and check the pressure running and after sitting. It sounds like your fuel pressure is bleeding off. Try turning your key to on 2 or 3 times before hitting the starter, then see how it starts. The pump charges the system for 2 or 3 seconds when the key is first turned on. If it starts better it could br your fuel pump. Thats how mine was at 55,000 miles new pump, runs and starts like new.

Thank you for the idea. I'll check the fuel pressure and see what that looks like compared to the specs in the manual. I hope it's as easy as that.
