I read it. I think I'll order one and keep it on a shelf and wait for mine to start giving me problems.
Once these EGR systems start to malfunction from getting sooted up, there is no cleaning them. For as long as I owned cars, the EGR would begin to get stuck open from carbon deposits. So I would just disconnect them.
This is the one from liberator diesel.. They want like 500 or 600 bucks for this kit. as you can see in the pictures its just a tube and two block off plates.. absolute ripoff..
I'd pay maybe 100 or 150.. but not a dollar more..
Our trucks do not need to be smogged, ever, correct?
I know quite a few guys running the popular block-off plate kit from other vendors....here, in California.
It seems as if most of all our problems are tied back to the EGR system so this may be the best way to avoid having engine problems and would be much less expensive than installing headstuds.
I'm just trying to evaluate the pros and cons from experienced mechanics/gearheads.

Incorrect... Kali will begin in 2010 (hearsay), but visual inspections may occur by any law enforcement personnel at any time provided they have probable cause... The CHP can and will, given the correct provocation, crawl up your a$$ with a microscope.

Roger that but I would have a greater chance of being struck by lightning than getting nailed for a blocked EGR.
I ran offroad pipes on my Mustang for 8 years...never even checked. Did the same with my Lightning...never been checked.
Now, I can see it happening with a Mustang or Lightning but I on a diesel truck? I just can't see it.
I was going to go the SCT route and just shut it off but it's my understanding that it just isn't as effective.

I agree... It you have an EGR block-off plug, it's virtually undetectable without a tear-down. If you completely DELETE the EGR cooler/system it's a different story. Even a CAT delete aka "test" pipe can get us nailed. Sure, we can put it back on when we know we need it, but it'll be a costly ticket if we get pinched without it, even when we show proof of correction. It's a risk, but so is driving...

I agree. I have the block-off plate for $35 plus free install from a buddy as afavour. I recived the same benefits as listed in the magazine. In my opinion there is no need to spend more money than you have to get similar results.
