I am wanting to do the 6637 intake mod and was wondering what is involved and if anybody has a link to a write up and maybe pictures. Thanks, Rob

4"od x 4 long pipe
4" constant velocity clamp

You win. I am sure you could figure out the proper order from that, but there is a link in my sig that will show you how to do it, IIRC. It is simple! If you want to get a little more complicated there is a cold air box option that just came out last week. That would be a pretty sweet little improvement.

 

Search is your friend

1. Buy a 6637 filter from Fleet Filter.com and a cover from Pete (cover is optional)
2. Get a piece of 4" exhaust or 3" ABS or PVC pipe for an adapter and a 4" clamp
3. Pull out the stock airbox- clamp for the top, 2 bolts for the bottom
4. Insert your adapter into the 6637 filter (you'll have to take it out of the box first)
5. Clamp adapter onto filter using clamp you bought
6. Shove filter/adapter into stock intake hose and clamp with OEM clamp
7. Install your filter cover from Pete (optional)
8. Drink beer, pat yourself on the back for a job well done

If you haven't done it already, now is a good time to do the CCV mod too.

 

I just did the ccv mod last nite. I thought I needed a new turbo thank god there are some great people on here willing to help out. Thanks I'm gonna order the filter today and e-mail pete about a cover.

 

Chase, I used a 3" pvc dwv coupling for this. The 3" pipe will fit inside the couling, the coupling is 4" OD.

Here is a pic of mine with the 3" coupling. You can just see a little bit of the coupling with the Pete's cover on it.

 

I keep having a hard time with the 3" plastic. Why do so many folks find this a necessary step? My stock tube slid right onto the 6637 with very little effort, on my part anyway. ZX250 did most of it while I engaged in one of the other steps in the instructions. But with each filter change since, it has been very easy to put right on.

Rick- I used a 3" ABS coupler on my 6637 install- it's black and looks a little cleaner than the white PVC IMO. I tried to stuff the stock intake hose over the filter, but (1) it was going to be hard to do and (2) I didn't want to risk it popping off for any reason.

 

Getting the stock to go on properly and be a very safe connection requires warm weather, or a heat gun, hair dryer. But once it's been done right it keeps right on working. Mine has been to Alaska and back and many many miles without moving a fraction of an inch

I used a 3" ID, 4" OD PVC coupler to replace the CCV coupler, but did what you did with the filter. However, I had a piece of 4" OD SS exhaust sent to me a while back and replaced the coupler and put one on the 6637 connection as well. The PVC after almost a year was starting to distort, so I think it's a good idea to use the metal piece instead. For one, it has a much wider ID than the PVC, and it certainly won't distort. I also found that the 6637 neck kept getting smaller & smaller under the load of the clamp (which is why you have to keep an eye on it and keep it tight). In fact, I had a heck of a time getting the exhaust to fit inside the neck. I had to use a hair dryer and quite a bit of force to get it down in there.

It works with PVC and/or directly connecting the filter to the tube, but it's better with the pipe and there's no worry about it coming loose. I was constantly worried about it popping off before, now I'm quite sure it ain't goin' nowhere...

 

I too used the white PVC like Rick. Both he and I have the advantage of owning white trucks so it doesn't look out of place like it would on another color truck.

 

I sure like the SS over either the black or white plastic. I've always been kinda weird about underhood looks. Must go back to my drag racing days. But I just don't like the looks of any Jerry rigged stuff.
