I left today for my normal uneventful trip to Asheville, NC and after only 50 miles I smell oil burning. I was pulling an empty 30' enclosed trailer and when I pulled over to check it our I have never seem that much oil come out from under a vehical....I shut it off and looked around the truck and the oil leak was so bad the whole underside and back 1/2 of my truck is black and the pretty white front of the trailer is now completely black. I have done the oil line R&R on top of the engine 3 months ago but this leak is FAR worse. It is puddling and running out the at the bellhousing but I can see oil on the bottom side of the hoodand it appears to be coming from around the turbo area...Any ideas? I know the pedastal mount's oring are prone to leaking but this is BAD. TIA
The oil pump. Look in the valley under the fuel filter, if there is a lot of oil there then that’s what it probably is. It is suppose to drain throughthe bell housing.
As a suggestion look into the valley and if there is oil there (in any amount) check out the HPOP. If not or very little oil (in valley) check out the high pressure oil rail plugs. They are located at end of each head i.e. facing the firewall AND facing the rad. Largest round plug you will find with a square (iirc 1\2") drive hole in the face to tighten it in the head. Not uncommon for the o-ring to leak behind this plug and both will run down the back of the engine onto bell housing.
As it turns out I have now had my second HVOP line go bad. The first one was just a slight leak compared to this one. I am thinking about replacing these "Quick fitting" type connections with std. lines next time.
