Does anyone know what the full advance is supposed to be at when the throttle's down, at about 2500 rpm. Mine's at 26 without the vacuum connection on a 79 f250 with a 400. I thought it was supposed to be at about 20 or something. Also, does anyone know how to fix this?? Thanks

You may not get full centrifical advance untill 3,500 depending on the distributor. With no vacuum advance hooked up I like to see 40 degrees by 3,000 on a 400. They don't have a lot of compression stock so they like the advance. I've always used more intial setting to get more total.

Well, I'm stumped then, because I thought that was why I was running high hydrocarbons at 2500 rpm. I thought maybe the advance was too much. Could it be too little of an advance?? maybe?I can't really think ofwhat else i could be.

my best guess is you are running too little initial timing. For emmission you should determine the factory setting at idle without the vacuum. Maybe about 10? Then connect the vacuum and make sure it bumps it up another 6 degrees or so. Then at 3,000 you should have at around 35. Don't increase it past stock if you are trying to pass emmissions.
