99 v-10 oil leak

99 v-10 oil leak

I have a 99 v-10 with 171k, that looks like it may have an oil leak from the rear outside of the passenger side head gasket. Anyone seen something like this before? I can't seen anything else in the area that may be causing the leak.

I've heard about it, but I thought it was a V8 (5.4) problem...

There might be an updated head gasket set for it.

Guys?

Thanks! Does the updated gasket come with automatic installation? Just kidding, that job looks like a PITA and may not be worth it on such a high mile engine.

You know, check the heater hose connections, they are right above there - who knows?

Thanks for the suggestion, it is definitely oil and my coolant level is not dropping.

Ooops... brain fart. You said oil... sorry...

Sure it's not the back of the valve cover?

I can see the back of the valve cover and it is dry. It is possible that the intake side of the VC is leaking into the "valley" and following the head gasket part line around and down. VC don't usually leak on the top though. I need to probe more with a flashlight. I may put some dye in it if I can't tell for sure.
