DTC Codes & 4x4 troubles
I have a 2002 Ranger and found out recently that my 4WD was not engaging at all. I changed out all the fuses (just in case) and nothing. Well, I was getting clicking when turning the ****, but that was it.
I took it to the dealership and they wanted a gazillion $$ to chane the 4x4 motor and then said it could also be the module. I declined for the moment (and will probably take it elsewhere if I need to have that done). My invoice says:
"Performed self test and found codes P1867, P 1891, P 1728. Performed pinpoint test and circ. ck found 4x4 motor inop, may need additional module replacement".
I know the P1728 has to do with the transmission, but my transmission has not given me any problems ...
My friend got the 4x4 working (it seems like the connections were stuck?) and both 4WD High & Low are engaging now.
My question concerns the codes and what I should be making of them (if anything) ... Any advice would be appreciated.

P1728 Transmission slip error
P1867 Transmission transfer case contact plate general circuit failure
P1891 Transmission transfer case contact plate power ground return open circuit
Looks like you have fixed the T/C codes, I would clear the codes and run, Key to maintaining the 4X4 system is to activate the motor 4H-4L at least monthly.
Check if P1728 slip error returns.
