1942 Ford truck WIW

Hello all, I'm new here. I honestly don't know a lot about Ford trucks except I have a soft spot for the highboys. My buddy has two of them but that's another story.

My mother in law has her Father's '42 Ford truck that he bought NEW. It's been in California it's whole life except the past 13 years it's been in Washington state in a barn. It currently has a Chebby 283 with I think some sort of manual tranny. It ran and quite well according to the father inlaw when it was parked. I think he said it had a recent rebuild before being installed. I may be lying but I'm pretty sure it's rust free.

We will be going out there on Turkey Day so I can take some pictures of it. I really wish my wife would take an interest in it so we could keep it in the family. I tried buying it years ago but they turned me down, now MIL wants me to try and sell it for her.

I realize w/o pictures it's darn near impossible to give a $$ figure, but what do you all think it's worth? Just imagine diamond tuck interior that's shot, all dusty with the chrome wagon wheels rusted.

Thanks in advance.

Best way to get an average market price is to check out ebay sales on 42-47 trucks. It'll give you a ballpark figure anyway.

Trouble with trying to guess here is location effects(midwest salt trucks are worth lots less than dry climate trucks), local demand, etc. Around here a truck like you described would go for maybe $500-1500.

If you're saying it hasn't been run in 13 years, it will need extensive work just to get it in running condition. Good luck with it, whichever way you decide to go.

Complete, with what you say, may need a little work to get her going again, around here (Southern Cal) you'd be looking in the $2000 as a high. Expect maybe closer to $1500. I paid $1500 for one of my '46s (running, 6 cylinder) about 12 years ago, and since have seen several for around that. BTW, the $1500 is the highest I have paid for a project truck, since then I have paid from $200 to $750, for 1/2 tons and 1 tons.
Oh, and welcome to the boards, hope we can help answer the questions you have.
