Shifting problem

I remember reading on here that there are a couple of bolts to tighten up under the dash to smooth out the shifting linkage. I tried the search feature but couldn't find the thread...

All of a sudden, yesterday, I got to work and tried to shift into park and it would only go as far as reverse. After a few times back and forth I managed to 'force it to Park. Is this what is caused by those bolts being loose? I'm going out today to see if I can locate them and try to tighten them up. Is there anything else that could be causing my shifter linkage to not want to go into Park...

Thanx...

Well, today I went out and located the two torx bolts for the shifter linkage but they were tight. Weird thing was, it shifted between all the gears smoothly going into park just as it always had. The only thing that was different about yesterday was we had a Nor'easter and got about 8" on the white stuff. The X worked great in the snow and got to and from work without a problem but thats when i experienced the shift lever problem. Could the cable or some linkage on the transmission have gotten snow/slush on it and caused it to not work properly?

Please, if you have any ideas why this may have happened or something I could possibly do, I'd really appreciate it.

...I really hate intermittent/vague mechanical problems.....
