Hey guys. I'm going to be getting duals for my pickup. One 3 inch pipe will run into my muffler then it'll split into two 2 and 1/4 inch pipes. Glass packs might go on as well, depending.
Does anyone have any vids with sound with a 300 inline six with dual exhaust?
My 300 has major carb work done on it, and I only have one pipe coming out in front of the rear tire, and still wish it was as loud as my cuz's 1500 that has mufflers on it...

Get that extreme and use that to split to your duals!! The 3 inch will most likely be
overkill if your motor is mostly stock!! With the torque monster you got using a fat
pipe will hurt the low end. To maximize torque you want long and skinny exhaust which
is contrary to what everyone wants of course, But the low end torque is what gets
you off the line pushing you back into your seat wow power that impresses your friends!! I would use the Extreme with the 21/2 in and 2 21/4 outs a with about at
least 2 to 3 foot of the 21/2 inch pipe then split into the 21/4 just before the rear wheels and go over the axles and under the bumper for the best performance and sound, If it is too loud then add either the glass packs or the the turbos and mount
the turbos right under the rear with the 2 output ones with chrome tips on the 4 outs
which would give you a different look!! They have sound clips on their site also check
you tube for sound clips. Stay away from the flowmaster and dyno flock and be original
and run the real first performance muffler Cherry bombs!! I run the glass pack and they
are loud when I punch it but nice and deep when cruising.

Don't our trucks have 3 inch going into the muffler already? It should be the same there. The main difference will be two pipes instead of one.
????
Also, how would this HURT my low end? Shouldn't this give me more power? At least 1 or 2 ponies??
honestly, i wouldn't recommend installing glass packs on an inline six, it will sound pretty ricey. I had a cherry bomb on my truck for a while, and i replaced it with a flow 40. btw i don't think a 3" exhaust is gonna help unless the motor is built, and it would only be beneficial at high rpms, probably hurting low end torque with it.
I had the same idea on my 300-6, but I started by ripping the efi manifolds off of a junk-yard dog and replacing my old log maniflod with them. Then I ran them through one flowmaster original 40 and finally through one 2.5" outlet behind the rear wheel. 2.5" is plenty btw considering that the 300 is not a high rpm engine and you don't need a huge exhaust system to make them pull. This modd added a few ponies and a couple ft-lbs but be careful, the 300 sounds good at low rpm's but gets kinda ricey, especially on the highway if you have the old borg-warner t-18 tranny. And by the way, you don't lose low rpm torque if you relieve back pressure, that's just an old wive's tale. Good luck.
Thanks everyone. I really appriciate your information. I found a video of one of the posters here with dual exhaust. It sounds exactly what I'm looking for. Like a possessed tractor.
hey man, you ought to just go with the true duals. It has more of a tractor sound than anything, it turns heads for sure because no one has ever heard anything like it! You lose the ricy sound because you only have 3 cylinders firing into each pipe, just keep the pipes apart and you will have a unique sound.

Good, I really hope it sounds like a tractor. The pipes are going to be apart. Thanks for your info as well!
I DID IT. I wish I could get a sound clip for you all. It doesn't sound bad but it doesn't sound real good either. It's alright though. I'm glad I did it either way. I can tell I picked up a few horses. It just feels "lighter". I put chrome tips on the end, 4 inches out. It looks good but not too "show offy". I'm pretty happy with it. I have two cat's though. I wish I could gut them, but with emissions.. eh. Anyway I know a lot of you might not care, but for anyone wondering about pairing dual exhaust with a 300 inline six.. I would suggest doing it. Just don't OVER do it.
What size pipes did you use? I am running dual 2.5" with no cats, headers and turbo mufflers. It sounds like a cross between a tractor and a cummins until about 3000 rpm. Then is sounds like a bad imitation of a honda

I put 2 1/4. I wanted skinny so I wouldn't hurt my motor's preformance. Mine doesn't sound like a honda but the motor itself does drown out the exhaust when I put the peddle to the floor. =/

what set up did u go for exactly?
What do you mean? I took out the muffler. I put cat back duals on with a Y pipe. So all I have on now is two cats running into a 4 inch pipe, then into a Y pipe and from there my pipes into glasspacks.

haha so true. I finally quit revving it. I take back everything I said - I LOVE this sound. I'm glad I did it.
