It's amazing what some people will pay for a fender or old body part. Then again, it's also the whole auction thing that raises these prices so sky high. It's pride, it's the bidders thinking, "I must win this item, even if it costs an arm and leg" and many times it does. Wonder is any buyer's (bidder's) remorse might kick in...haha
The bidder frenzy running up prices like that has occurred a few times on items Ive sold. It often makes me nervous wondering if the part being sent will meet expectations, but they always have. There was a 1965 TBA parts manual I listed and two bidders ran each other up to a sale of 85.00. Then after that sale I listed a 1966 TBA parts manual. The one loosing bidder on the first was the only bid on the second and it sold for 10.00. Both of the books were the same except one year off.

I've had things like that happen too...I watched a bid on a spare tire hanger for a F-1 to figure out if I should list the one I had...the one listed went for 125.00 and wasn't as nice as mine...mine went for 30 or 35 bucks...I guess that's why a lot of folks put a big reserve on it and keep relisting, eventually there will be two bidders that have to have it, at the same time.
I've had the very same thing happen to me. I take a lot of pride when I list items, and tell it jaust as it is so there are no surprises.
I like to sell items as the way I like to buy them, mostly all of this sheet metal given its age and use, does need work.
I sold a pair of these Rear Fenders for under the price of the one that you posted the link to.
I even encourage buyers to ask away any questions they may have if you want more detailed pics of certain areas, then ask.
Through this method I have earned a very good status on that site.
Again as you said it only takes 2, your right then again as far as high prices go, the Auction in AZ. doesen't help either.
You know, Ebay is a perfect place to buy and sell something. There's nothing wrong with it.
The shipping charges and the final price are totally up to the buyer. If you want something bad enough you'll pay what you'll pay to get it.
I NEVER get into a bidding war for anything if I'm buying. I decide early what I'll pay (incl shipping) if the bidding doesn't go above it I wait until 5 seconds to go and bid.
