My 03' f-350 7.3 liter has a hypertech power programmer and new air intake. My mechanic says i need to flush my transmition before i haul anything heavy (I've heard thats unnessary), i want to install a pyrometer. Both cost about the same. Any suggestions on which comes first?
You should drop the pan, clean it, and flush every 30K miles, if you want your tranny to last. You can save a lot doing it yourself, and adding an external microfine filter on top of that.
As dfuser stated, you need to flush the trans every 30K and it would be a good idea to consider upgrading to synthetic trans fluid. FYI the 4R100 auto transmission is the weak link with the 7.3PSD. Regular manintenance with these is a must for maximum longevity.
Something I found out about hypertech power programmer. Don't run it on stage 3 with a aftermarket air intake. There programed to work on stock air intakes. This is info from hypertechs people. Something they don't tell you. The problem is a overboost on the on the heads and you'll end up having to get a head gasket and new heads done on your truck. I did it to my truck.......just so you know

think you are talking about a 6.0 I have run hypertec on stage 3 with different intakes for 115k miles with no problems
don't tow in stage 3 it could build to much exhaust and trans heat
over 1200 deg egt could melt a piston
over 200 deg can ruin trans
Just relaying what I was told. I asked about the 6.0 and he said it was for the 7.3 and 6.0 motors. I need to look into it more, I'm waiting on UPS to show up with my pyrometer and trans. temp. gauges. Then going over to the local street racer shop and dinoing the truck and see what I get for info.
