Cool Fuil tank problem

I have fixed so many things on this truck that I was dreaming about working on it, now after I got it running good it fell on its face again yesterday, the fuil fillter was full of rust almost looked like paint, the filter was replaced last month, Is there a replacement for it that you can clean??? I dont want to buy a new filter every month or is there somthing that I can put in the tank to stop this,, I have used sea foam but I gues it didnt work. 96 explorer 4.0 4x4

Good grief Larry, if it ain't one problem it's another. Sounds to me like your either going to have to replace the tank or clean the one you have. I did a quick google search and found this:

http://www.kbs-coatings.com/KBS-Auto...it-P88C38.aspx

I don't have any experience with this stuff, but you might want to look into something of this nature as I'm sure you don't want to be changing the fuel filter every month.

That much rust?? The fuel tank on my '92 is plastic, so my first question would be, do you have plastic tank or a metal tank. If the tank is plastic, then the rust (assuming it's actually rust and not something else) isn't coming from the tank.

the tank is not plastick on this one this truck just has a bad history with the fuil system It stayed parked for about 7 monthes before anyone did anything for it. I was hoping there was a reusable filter that I could clean so that I could let the crap in the tank run its course. I droped the tank and scrubbed it out with carb and choke cleaner would that cause the tank to rust real bad I thought it would be ok, Thanks for the site Im going to check it out next

I'm not positive Larry, but I know carb cleaner will dissolve paint. It is possible if there was a coating in the tank, it's gone now. Again, not positive, so maybe someone else will know for sure.

Well thanks I found out that the tanks are almost three hundread bucks. I had the old one relined and it was $100 went ahead and replaced the pump and filter again. it runs alot better but still back fires around 3k to 4k rpms I had a preaty bad car crash on the 24th so I could not do anything for a bit still sore but had my buddy fix the tank for me. I think I would feel better if the lady had totaled the explorer. O-well any advise would be great.
