I have an 01 f250 with v10 112k miles. It idles and runs a little rough. I had my mechanic hook it to their computer and they did some sort of driving test with the comp and it showed no misses at all. Has anyone had this problem.
I purchased the truck recently for a weekend vehicle and would like to get it running smooth.
Also...could be something as simple as your MAF sensor. You can clean it with some electronics cleaner. Make sure...the MAF sensor is completely dry before starting the engine.
or......big Orn......the unit he's using dosen't do all of the diagostic tests. some of the cheaper units are northing more than code readers. My guess (since I replaced one on my car this weekend) would be the IAC. A new one probably isn't more than $50 and they're easy to change. The thing is your mechanic should be able to hook his scan tool up (if it's a decent one) and look at what the expected RPMS should be (whast the PCM is telling the IAC) compared to what they are and then he could check the IAC manualy with the scan tool (if the two rpms differ) to see if it's operating within the correct parameters. Seems odd he wouldn't have checked that.
The mechanic I took it to is pretty competent. They have a computer that cost several thoudands of $$$. He is a freind and they found that they did not record any engine missfire. But that's all they looked for. What else shold I be asking them to check
