Hey everyone I am new to this site as this is my first post, I have been reading posts as a guest for the last few days and now wishing I found this site before I ordered the new truck. From what i am reading on here i should have ordered the truck with the 4.30 instead of 4.10, i have upgraded the truck to the tow cammand package with torque shift trans, will the 4.10 ratio be suitable for towing a 18ft trailer with a bobcat, the trailer and bobcat are around 4000kg with a possible cargo in the truck box as well?
ps....thanks for all the great posts on this site, have learned alot so far, just wish i found it before the order went in...lol
I hope so...I'm pulling a 33' 10k lb boat with mine and a similar set up (why do so many here use kg and km istead of lbs & miles )
Anyway...have fun with your long wait for delivery, I'm three weeks into the 10 week wait. This forum (the V10 specifically) helped me in my decision to bag my PSD, I'm looking forward to getting into a gasser again.
Although a bobcat and trailer are in the 10k lbs range the wind resistance is nothing and an 08' 3V V10 with 4.10s will be fine. I towed many skidsteers with my lowly 2V V10 with 3.73s and oversized tires and it's no problem! I've found that my 8k lb travel trailer pulls way harder than a 10k-12k lb bobcat/tractor on a flatbed trailer! I attribute the difference to the wind resistance.
Indydog, many that use this site are our are neighbors to the north (Canada) and we ocasionaly get a few from other parts of the world. I believe the USA is about the only country not on the metric system!
At 70 mph in OD the difference in rpm is only about 100 between the 2 rearends. In 4th gear it's about 200. Obviously you'll notice the difference more in lower gears but it isn't a big differnce.
The 4.10:1 will be just fine for what you want to do...plenty of pulling power....the only thing the 4.10 over the 4.30 limits you to is range of tire selections.... If you don't lift, and get big with tires, then it is a total non issue... We have half a dozen memebers here who have the 4.10s and trailer very heavy all over the tall mountains and none of them thinks they need a regear to lower.....
Sure it would have been better to get the deeper gears from the get go..... But truth is, seat of the pantys difference between the two sets offered is nil.... stop fussing and get ready to enjoy your new truck!
Thanks for the info guys I went to the dealer but decided to keep the 4:10 gears to save fuel, I have a f150 fx4 with a 5.4 now and will soon have f250 fx4 v10 so i am sure the difference will be amazing and by the way SLE yes 4000kg works out close to 10,000lbs thanks for the help.
