A 6.8 in my future?
My question how has the reliability been on the V10/torqueshift combo. the past couple of years? I know that in the past there were cold start up knock issues and spark plug thread issues. Have these problems been corrected?
I do a fair amount of towing. This past year I've driven 15+K with at least 80% of it with the travel trailer behind the truck. Love retirement.
I currently have an 05 F250 with a 6.0/torqueshift and haven't been happy with it. Its favorite drive is to the ford strore for 6.0 repairs. The trans. has been great. I don't want to buy a new problem child from Ford.
Thanks for your help. Bill
The 2008 3v V10 and 5R110w will be the most reliable combo you can option in a SuperDuty
First year there were a few issues..all gone... Wire throttle, loose "c" clips and roll pins in the Torqshift, plug blow out, electrical gremlins..are all very rare these days...
The 6.4L PSD is too new to really comment on...I think most of us realize Ford is not done messing with Diesel motors for a while and the 6.0, 6.4 and WHO knows whats next are all going to be orphan motors...
We even are concerned that FoMoCo are real Brain dead to have the 3v V10 work horse int he stable and seem to ignore that they even produce the most powerful and fuel efficient gas motor ever put under the hood of a 8000 pound truck... go figure
Reliability so far after 4 years on the 3v v10- 5R110w is exceptional! Buy with confidence
I'm pulling a trailer with a weight of 7.5k, and I'm hoping to see 8-9mpg with the V10. The 6.0 on my last trip which was 8K averaged 11 hand calculated mpg. Over 6K of that trip had the trailer behind it. Better than 8-9 but I'm paying 30 cents a gal more and the diesel is and expensive option. Plus it seems to end up in the shop at least once each trip.

MOST of us here have the same or similar experiance that put us in the seat of a V10 powerd SuperDuty....
In fact I doubt many of us would be on these forums if did not previously have a diesel.... Nothing about my V10s has ever sent me searching for help...BUT the PSDs sure did!!
