Just picked up an 04 f350 and was wondering if I have the Torqueshift transmisison or not? Did all 04's with the 6.0 in the f350 have the Torqshift trans?
Yes, all 6.0l's came with the Torqshift - I would hate to see a 4R100 behind one...
There are a couple of people that do rebuilds for them, but aside from niggles (and a recall) they are a pretty darn strong unit standard.
That was part of a recall. A small washer lets go on one of the clutch hubs. The trans itself is a very stout unit. The 110 in the name 5r110 is the torque rating, 1100 ft/lbs of torque. There are no bands in the trans to burn up, at least not in the usual sense.
You would be having to be adding a ton of power to justify buying a new torque convertor for the TS. Stock does just fine. I think new clutch packs would be a better buy than a torque convertor.

Are you sure with this?
The name of the transmission (as far as I am aware) is
5 - the amount of effective gears in the transmission
110 - to denote that it is a step beyond the 4R100
The fact that the Torqshift isn't available in the F650 and up, confirms my opinion that in fact it isn't rated at a whole lot more than 600/650lbft.

Absolutely...the stock converter is stout.
Under high torque situations, the direct drive clutch packs and the (igornantly engineered) inverse-proportional solenoids controlling the direct drive gear and EPC end up failing and taking other parts with them.
