After further review, sales to daily rental co. were down 62%, sales to individual retail customers were down 15%. However, crossover sales were up 52%, more than any other auto manufacture. So there is a bright spot.
Ford is definetly in trouble. If they dont do something to turn it around soon, Ford might not be around too much longer.
I had planned on buying another F-150 in a couple years when my '99 is at 200,000 miles but if this keeps up it looks like I will be in the market for either a Chevy or a GMC.
Don't get to excited, they didn't expect things to improve until 09 according to thier big way foreward plan. Fleet sales will suffer with the loose of the old taurus, ranger and crown vic that they will be phasing out.
i say its the dealers, there are many good ones of course, but it does not take many bad to get a reputation going for all of them.
around where i live we have a horrible dealer.
but all in all, that still would never keep me from purchasing what i want, however, if someone is trying to decide between 2 or 3 different makes, the dealer attitude could be the deal maker or breaker.
ford needs to decide what they want to build and sell.
consolodate and head that way. harley davidson was same place years ago. rallied and came back strong. but even their sales have dropped now.
i wonder how much "cash" ford has now. that will be the key if this goes long term.
i will always have a ford truck. the cars, well, i love the 98 svt cobra but it is not built as well as my 97 crew.
still driving 4 pre 70 fords. dont think the parts will go away..
anyway
cant picture john force working for Schumacher...
go ford.
Ford can't seem to get away from the suv format or should they with thier cross overs being such a hit. The new taurus is selling better than did the 500. The fusion is still hot and the mustang, "well", the stang is the bomb. I just bought an 07 GT, I haven't had this much fun with a car in years, it's exciting to look at and drive. The retro styling really works for an old timer like me. It reminds me so much of my 68 fastback and it's quicker than my 428 CJ that was in it. The CJ turned mid 14's in the 1/4 where as the 07 GT turns mid 13's. Street slicks and analuminum driveshaft and tune, your in the 12's. Ford will be updating it's mod motors with the new line of boss's, the 5.0, 6.2 and 7 liter along with a new stang and F-150 for 09. We have a new focus, but think ford needs some more small car choices, which they are working on. Bring back the bronco and do something with the ranger, make more shelby's and they should be in good shape as far as lineup. "O yeah", an svt fusion, focus and taurus would be nice a long with a new lighting which is comming. Can you say 7 liter lighting, sure you can hee hee.
I haven't herd any plans of GM, dodge or toyota dropping thier mid size p/u. From all I hear, ford will have a replcement as well, F-100/ranger, whatever they want to call it.
