hey there 79, What kind of wheeling do you have in mind? The great thing about doublers is they give great crawlability (is that a word?) You won't need to use the skinny pedal to crawl over boulders & climb rock. They also excel when coming down off an obstacle, like stair steps or a waterfall. If you want it for mud or sand , wheel speed is you friend & the doubler does the exact opposite. I run a 79 Bronco, 460,435,205,4:88's & 35's. Does pretty well rock crawling but my hiway gearing is sheettii. I think it's like 3000 rpm @ 52 mph. I trailer it mostly but am planning a NV4500 swap to get the overdrive. HEY!! how about NV4500, doubler, 205, 4:88's . Oh man now I 've got to go do some measuring. Cheers Rick
im usally pullin or muddin. too nice to take in the woods and smash up .wondering if i would grenade the cases when pullin? so another case would take away my top end on the road?
Both pullin & muddin require wheel speed. The doubler takes that away. The NP435 gear ratios are more or less 1/2 of each other. (6.69,3.34,1.79.1.00) your 205 is more or less 2:1 (1.96) and the doubler is also 1.96. So no matter which combo you choose you will be back to the same point. Tranny in 1st(6.69), Tcase in low(1.96) = 13.11 OR tranny in 2nd(3.34), Tcase in low(1.96) & doubler in low(1.96) = 12.83 The doubler will give you better gears lower tranny in 1st(1.96), Tcase in low(1.96) & doubler in low(1.96) = 25.7 The doubler makes sense for the rock crawler guys but it may not do the job for you. Just my 2 cents. Cheers Rick
Man I should read your whole post before replying. The doubler will do nothing to change your top end on the road because you will be in 4th & hi range in both cases. 1 to 1 ratio all the way thru. I think I need a coffee. Cheers Rick
