I have a 2003 F350 6L diesel with torqshift 5spd tranny. My local shop changed fluid and filter for me and thinking it was the 4R100 4spd used regular Mercon instead of Mercon SP, the only fluid specified for the torqshift. I drove it for a week then had all fluid and external filter changed at Ford dealer.
Now I have a low speed shudder or vibration when accelerating from a standing start that lasts for a couple of seconds then everything seems normal. Question: Is my transmission damaged as the owners manual says it may be using other than Mercon SP? A friend thinks the low gear disc probably slipped from the wrong fluid and is now damaged and needs repair. Is the entire transmission toast or can the damage be repaired by a good tranny shop? I was preparing to leave on a 10-12000 mile trip to FL and back pulling a 14000lb fifth wheel but I've got to get this transmission right. Suggestions??
