I just bought a 1965 F-250 with a scoop on the hood and super duty emblems on both sides of the hood. I know it is not off a regular 3/4 ton, but I have never seen one before and was wondering if it was anything special?
I am also wondering is there any place to find replacement shortboxes for my truck. The box I have is very rusty and unrepairable.
They are from the F600 up. they are an air intake that was installed reversed towards the windshield to take advantage of the low pressure zone. Installed on the superduty
401,477 and 534 cubic inch engines.
PS. dont tell a pontiac guy that GM used the same FORD intake and grill on the Goat....
Yep, I'm with Garbz. You've got a hood sourced from a Big Truck Ford of the same era.
Only beds available repro are stepside (or, for Garbz, flareside) ones. You're shopping used for any others.
That scoop was never used by the factory on the GTO or any other Pontiac as far as I know. Some racers installed them on their cars, especially the 63 models Tempest wagons, super duty cars, Catalinas, etc. I have one NOS. Pretty cool looking scoop.
The scoop was used on Pontiac Super Duty Catalina factory racers - 421 CI, aluminum hood & fenders, etc. Interestingly, the big Ford trucks were called Super Duties too. The story is Pontiac bought the scoops from Ford and put a GM part number on them. Another tale was Farmer(Pontiac NHRA head tech) bought the scoop number but then asked for the part number for the hole in the hood!
Most of the scoops on the market today were probably harvested from old trucks in the junkyard. The grills were never used on Pontiacs.
I'm looking for one (preferably not made of gold) for my '63 Catalina Wagon surf wagon project.
Hope you all can appreciate classic Motor City diversity.
