Cant Find VIN on 1941 1/2 Ton PU?

Have a 41 1/2 ton pu with no title. I need a VIN to apply for a title but cant find a VIN tag anywhere. If no tag is the VIN stamped anywhere on the frame? Appreciate any help.

Look behind the steering box mount on top of the frame...from there to the cab...somewhere along there you'll find it if it's still legible, there's also a number under the cab area, and along the curve somewhere over the rear axle, but ofcourse you need the bed and box off to find those.

Go to www.vanpeltsales.com and click on "flathead serial numbers" to get an idea of how many numbers you need to find.

Finding vin number and title info.

What if the frame is no longer there, how do you file for a builders title?

All states are different. In MN I would have to have proof of ownership for pretty much everything (receipts, bill of sale etc.) It is also my understanding that all major things that were serialized need to have the original there. So if you use an S10 frame and it is supposed to have an SN then you must submit this number to the DPS along with the body SN. You would have to do some investigating into whether or not there are any exceptions to the SN rule since many of the old bodies with the SN plate screwed to the glove box door turned up missing over the years.

You really should check with the rules in TX though, and try to get answers to all of the known specific questions that you will be confronted with i.e. body SN issues and such.

Good luck and keep us updated, its always interesting to see how these title issue work out.

Like mike mentioned it is located on the top of the frame between the cowl and steering box mount.
You will need a wire brush and some elbow grease. Take a damp or wet cloth periodocaly and rub over the brushed ared it will help in raising the numbers, so you can see them.
If you do locate them depending on if your frame is rusted or badly pitted, take a marker or some of that yellow or white kind put it on liberally let dre and then take some laquer thinners and wipe the excess off.
You should then have a set of numbers that will stand out. It definatly does work again depending on the condition of the frame. If that fails and the truck is an original then the serial number will also be stamped on the transmission top. That is located at the top just ahead of the shifter if its a floor shift if a column shift in around the same location. Looks like a retangular plate about 3 inches long, by 1 inch high, good luck.

Your 41 Pickup was originally built as a V8. The serial numbers ranged from 18-5896295 through 18-6769035, for the V8 engined Trucks.
There is nothing here that resembles the <-1->, in the number at all. Maybe take a closer look at it, i know there hard to read as the older they get, but its something that has to be done.
It seems that you have all the numbers nexessary to title the Truck if not already done.

Ok I have my VIN but no idea what the numbers mean? Does it show Eng, trans, axle ratio, build date? None of them can be options as it has NONE. Thanks

The serial number will only show what engine and ton rating the truck is. This is assuming you have a US truck as I believe Canadian trucks were different.

So there is no way to tell the date? Reason I ask is that from what C&G Ford is saying I have a 42 drag link from the pictures so he said I must have a very late 41 vehicle. I was hoping the vin would show the approximate date. So they are just a bunch of random numbers that have no meaning?

No, the numbers don't provide a production date. Is your truck a half ton or is it higher ton rating? I would start a new thread, share some pictures of the drag link. I'm sure somebody here can shine some light on it for you

It is a half ton. Looks just like a 39 or 40 car. I've never posted any pictures here so I will have to figure how to do that.
