I have a 2002 Ranger and I seem to have a problem when my truck is going up hill. It starts bucking as if it is in to high a gear and going to slow or as if it is having a problem with fuel. I have changed the fuel filter and run injector cleaner in almost every tank full of gas. It also does the same bucking when I first start the truck for the day and if my A/C is running. Has anyone every experienced anything like this or am I just losing my mind?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm having the same problems right now and it turned out to be a bad canister purge valve. Do you have any trouble codes coming on?
You could:
Check fuel pressure.
Check for trouble codes.
Act accordingly.
You did the right thing changing the fuel filter though. Although it doesn't work sometimes, (like now), it does things like this a lot. We had one clog up on our tractor the other day...
I would try cleaning the MAF sensor too. I did that a while ago when my truck was idling rough, (turned out I just forgot to plug the PCV valve back in after removing the upper intake... ). Anyways, when I DID reconnect the valve, it ran smoother anyway.
You could also change the plugs and wires if you haven't done so recently. My 96 still had the original wires, (and probably the original plugs), on it, and it was starting to miss at higher speeds. Each gap was corroded to about .8!
Thanks for all the info. I will check a few things out. The plugs are new, gapped correctly, wires are new, fuel filter is new, and I have had no trouble codes at all come on. Anyway, I will see what I can find. I am in the process of taking to ford for a recall so I might get them to check out my truck for me. Thanks again, Chris.
