Do a search, there is one thread that compares the different Y pipes and there is also a video with the flutter sound. I didn't find the flutter sound in the video to be that bad.

I'd go to a local exhaust shop to get a quote - they might make a better looking Y-pipe than hacking your stock one and clamping/welding on that "Y"...
$125 isn't bad. try your local exhaust shop just to see. a friend had one made in NC when i was stationed there that was about $70-$80. some may be higher and some lower but it's worth a check.
I had the e-bay Y-pipe put on my 04. No installation problems, no flutter problems, noticably more low and mid range get up and go. Also just seems to run smoother.
Go to a real exhaust shop for a Y pipe. You will spend approximately the same (give or take $30), and the Y pipe will fit exactly to YOUR truck.
I've purchased and installed off the shelf aftermarket Y-pipes. Not one of them fit well out of the box. They all required extra welding, bending or cutting to fit.

Good Luck,

The problem with exhaust shops is most do not have mandrel benders. Without a mandrel bender the pipe can be collapsed and distorted, especially on tighter bends. You may not notice a difference between mandrel bent and a reg. bender performance wise however collapsed pipe is no good for flow or velocity. Not to mention there are a lot of Hack exhaust shops out there who do low quality work.
On the 00'-04' SDs the stock Y-pipe has pretty smooth bends and is very close to equal length which is desirable. Just cutting out and replacing the portion of the Y-pipe where it necks down to 1.5" and replacing it with a piece either, Stan's, E-Bay or Custom is IMO the best way to go.

Both exhaust shops in my town have mandrel benders. Thats why you go and talk to them prior to purchasing and/or ordering.
This kind of work is elementary for a competent exhaust man. Not to mention rather cheap.
For the $125 for the ebay part... he could have a custom mandrel bent Y pipe built AND welded to his truck in an hour maybe two. With the spare change he saved, he could pick up a 12 pack of micro-brew on his way home.
Off the shelf exhaust setups do not always line up. This is the case from cheap-o setups and stainless setups from reputable companies like Bassani etc.
Clamped exhaust components would never be allowed on my truck. Take a look at the inner workings of a clamped exhaust system after 10,000 miles. Your mandrel bending was a waste after the clamps warp your pipes over hundreds of hot and cold cycles.

As you can see by the pics in my gallery, the Stan's pipe goes right in no troubles. I stood there and watch the install by a guy who was a welder first, muffler man second, and he had no problems what so ever.

Who's gonna clamp that thing? It was meant to be welded in place.
According to his feedback profile, plenty of people are buying his pipe and seem to be happy w/ it. When he first released it, he was a member on here and dropped the price a little for FTE members.
