I have an 02 F250 4X4 with the Triton V-10. Periodically when I start the truck in the morning and it's warming up, I hear a slight popping noise coming from the tail pipe. I had the fuel injection/throttle body service/cleaning performed at my local Ford dealership. It doesn't do this every time I cold start the truck. I wonder if it may be bad gasoline? I sue Chevron 87 octane according to the owners manual this is the octane Ford recommends. the truck only has 38K miles on it and runs great otherwise, any ideas or suggestions on what to check?
Is it a popping noise like expanding metal? If so it might just be the heat shield, which is pretty normal for gassers. Mine does that, plus makes all sorts of popping and snapping noises after I shut it dow.
