My Fellow Americans, I have a set of tires and wheels that I am trying to clean up to sell. The wheels are alum. with 33X12.50 15 tires on them.
The wheels have a lot of small black specks on them that I want to try to remove. I have used Etching Mag wheel cleaner as well as Bleach white. It has lightened the spec color some but is not cleaning like I had hoped.
I would like to hear what has worked well for other readers.
i use to detail semi trucks, i was the alluminum polishing man. Mag cloride or salts on the road with etch into the aluminum. To get pits and sctrached out you must sand. you can shine it. but to get a good shine you must use a buffer. I use a 6000 rpm dewalt grinder. YOu can try mothers aluminum polish from walmart, it is very agressive stuff but should do good. try a power ball to help to cut down work
if you have an email ill send you picture on what i use. the buffing wheels come in diffrent colors orange is a tuff wheel white it extremly soft. you can pic these up at a major truck part retail
John is the finish polished or brushed. The black pits are from acid of some kind. could be from anywhere, acid rain, dog pee, battery leak, tree sap. If the finish is polished I would use mothers paste and elbow grease. For a brushed finish a small soft wire wheel on a drill motor works quick but you have to do the whole wheel.
Let's keep the flame wars to a level somewhere around "non-existent". The question was about wheel polishing, not childish fighting. If you don't have any advice, then don't post a reply.
John, if they are anodized, you could strip them with Drano and then polish them with an aluminum polish. By the way, what were those wheels on?
