E40D vs ZF5 strength

Hi guys. I'm shopping around for a 90-97 f250/350 4x4 with a 460. I would turbocharge it... shooting for about 400hp and 700 lb-ft of torque at the wheels initially with potential for 700 hp and 1000+ lb ft sometime down the road. I'm having a hard time deciding between the e40d and the ZF5.

From what I've read, the e40d can be made to hold up in that kind of application, but it wouldn't be cheap. What would it hold up to with just a shift kit and an aftermarket controller assuming it was in good shape to begin with?

I know the zf5 is only rated at 420 ft-lb but I've heard that they can handle way more than that. Has anyone broken one from too much torque? The only failures I am reading about are syncro related.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I seem to recall a guy named "frederic" in the turbo section who was building a twin turbo 460, and I think he may have been using a ZF. I may be wrong though. My wife would say it wouldn't be the first time...
