I have a 460 in a bronco and am having a problem finding out what year the motor is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

it doesnt matter what the actual year is, all you need to know is the head and block casting number... there arent many differences. head casting number will probably be d3ve-a2a, which is found between the valve cover and the exhaust manifold/header, and the block casting number is found above the starter- probably is either d1ve or d9te. there could be a c8ve, c9ve, or d0ve head and/or block castings if its an early motor, but those are much more rare as they each were only made 1 year.

I don't need to know what year it is when buying a intake or any other parts or are they all exactly the same?

yep, the 1978 and earlier are internal balance, the 1979 and later are external balance... but thats just the crankshaft spacer on the front and the flywheel/flexplate on the back... beyond those 2 things everything else is the same.

So I can buy any set of heads for the 460 and they should work fine? I am not looking for high performance heads just looking to replace the broken ones.

yep, any carb heads will work fine. the only crappy 460 heads were the d2ve casting number- only made in 1972, and they were crappy because they were very detonation prone.

yep... thats why the external balance crank will fit in the internal balance block, but the internal balance crank wont fit in the external balance block

1979 460's came either way.

The 1973/79 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog states the following when looking up the part number for a 1979 460 vibration damper or flexplate.

Vibration Damper

1974/79: Use without weighted spacer: D4VZ-6316-A Use to service block stamped: D1TE-6015-AB

1979: use with weighted spacer: D9TZ-6316-B Use to service block stamped: D9TE-6015-AB
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Flexplates:

1973/79: Use without weighted spacer: D1SZ-6375-A Use with block stamped: D1TE-6015-AB

1979: Use with weighted spacer: D9TZ-6375-A Use with block stamped: D9TE-6015-AB

id just go the newer gear reduction starter... theyre smaller, lighter, and put out more torque than the older ones... but any starter from a 460 or 351m/400 should work.

there are certian year blocks that require clearencing with a 4.5" crank...it's some the earlier year production blocks.
