Does anyone know what color the y block engines were painted in a 60 F100?
I know the 57-58's were yellow, but I don't have a clue on the 59-60 models.
I'm hoping someone on here knows.

The '60 Y-block is Vermillion w/ Gold Valve Covers & all the rest is Black.
Fomoko: Check out Earl's world. The 56 is yellow. There are several brochure pics on there.
Thanks Brian, I`ll check it out, I have it book marked. I was really hoping it was yellow or red, black valve covers maybe? Some one had painted my engine Ford blue before I got it and the bell housing is an awful puke shade of green.
I am going to throw a guess out here...ford liked to use the argent silver, so maybe that is the valve cover color too?
Yeah...I have his site bookmarked. I go and look around in there a lot.
From 1952 thru 1967, the valve covers are different colors than the engine. This was Ford's way of IDing what engine the vehicle had. After 1967, all engines/valve covers are Ford Blue.

I was just going from the brochure (page 3). All 8 engines listed show the silver color valve colors.
Was the blue to designate just a V8 or?
I had a ranger that I bought new that had gray valve coivers.
All engines/valve covers after 1967 are Ford Blue...there is no longer any other color used on valve covers to ID what the engine is. When the new OHV 6 and Y block Lincoln engines were introduced in 1952, anyone working on Fords till that date worked on flatheads. Ford sent booklets to dealers that were used in the shop, and also passed out to outside repair shops. These booklets listed all the various colors of the valve covers, so those working on the engines could tell what size the engine was. Every year new booklets came out till 1968.
Sometimes things were confusing, because Ford sometimes used the same color valve covers on trucks, as they did on cars. The only problem was, the engines were different. Case in point: 1965/66 Mustang 289 2V = Gold valve covers. 1965/66 F100/350 352 2V = Gold valve covers.

Not wanting you to paint your y-block the wrong colors, black block, heads, intake and accessories + air cleaner and red(I suppose vermillion) valve covers. This after looking at tons of original 1960's and trying to find a color. I have a pics of a few trucks if needed, but no brand new factory photos showing a v8(only a six cylinder which followed the same colors) Any more progress on that 58'?
